Studies have shown that blood sugar, blood pressure and lipid control are not ideal for diabetics in many countries around the world.As the world's largest diabetic country, the control of risk factors for diabetes patients has not been systematically studied.Professor Wang Hui, dean of the School of Public Health of Shanghai Jiaotong University, led the national key research and development plan project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, focusing on "digital active health and chronic disease prevention and control".Recently, relevant research was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, filling the gap in China's lack of systematic research on the control of risk factors in diabetics.
Based on the serious situation of global diabetes prevention and control, Wang's team collaborated with Ding Gangqiang/Yu Dongmei team of China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to analyze BMI, blood sugar, blood pressure, lipids, lifestyle and diet.
The study found that the vast majority of people with diabetes in China did not control risk factors to the levels recommended by the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (2020 edition).Only one-third of patients had a BMI below 24 kg/m2; only 4.4 percent achieved both individualized blood sugar, blood pressure and lipids, with blood pressure and lipid levels particularly low at 22.2 percent and 23.9 percent, respectively.Lifestyle, there are still 1/4 of patients smoking, 1/3 of patients drinking alcohol, 1/2 of patients sleep less than the standard, 4/5 of patients leisure time exercise less than the standard, the overall lifestyle achievement rate is only 5.1%.
Dietary indicators were the lowest, with the majority of patients receiving less than the energy ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, only 9% of patients receiving sodium and 2.5% of patients receiving dietary fiber.Of the 3,531 patients with dietary data, only four had diets that met the guidelines' dietary recommendations.In addition, there are subgroup differences in the above indicators, and there are significant differences in patients of different ages, gender, urban and rural areas, education level and BMI.The above data show that the current situation of diabetes risk prevention and control in China is not optimistic.
For the first time, the study comprehensively reveals the overall situation of risk factor control in Chinese diabetics, and further analysis of the causes of poor risk factor control in diabetics is urgently needed.
