A recent clean-up of the collection found a "Statistical Table of papers published by Wuhan Geological Institute (renamed China Geological University in 1987) in foreign journals or international conferences from 1980 to 1984."This material reflects the academic status of teachers in major subjects in the early period of national reform and opening-up, and is a valuable historical material for teachers' academic development after the school moved south from Beijing to Wuhan.This material also reveals the historical evolution and inheritance of China Geological University's superior discipline construction and development, and shows that the formation of national key disciplines should rely on the international perspective of academic leaders.
As we all know, in the early days of reform and opening up, some academic cadres of key universities and state-level research institutes have been sent to universities and related scientific research institutes in Europe and the United States.The 1980–1984 paper statistics table contains 77 papers, including 51 international conference papers and 26 professional academic journal papers and other related papers.of which P.B. Moor has collaborated with Shen on six journal papers, including one published in the journal Nature entitled An X-ray structural study of Cacoxenite, a mineral phosphite, and three published in the journal American Mineralogist.Most of the other papers have been published in mainstream journals, such as Yin Hongfu in the Journal of Paleontology, Wang Hongzheng and Wu Ruidang in the UK Geological Magazine, Song Honglin in Geology, Journal of Structural Geology, Yang Qi in the International Journal of Geology.
The main authors of 77 papers include more than 30 teachers in the school, in order of their disciplines (including in arcs): Geology (51), Formation Paleontology (19), Rock Minerals (23), Structure (4), Geochemistry (5), Exploration (12).Obviously, the geology department and the exploration department teachers published papers accounted for the absolute majority of the secondary teaching institutions in the school.Among the authors of papers submitted to international journals and conferences, there are a few older scientists (including the age range in arcs), such as Wang Hongzheng (64-68), Yang Qi (61-64), Mr. 於 Chongwen (57), Mr. Yan Tongzhen (55) and Mr. Zhai Yusheng (54).Most of the other authors are young teachers under the age of 45 who are active in scientific research, the youngest of whom was 37 years old when he received his doctorate in France.
Most of the young and middle-aged authors of these papers went to top universities in Europe and America for about two years with state funding. I know teachers who specialize in stratigraphic paleontology, such as Yin Hongfu, Wu Ruitang and Mao Shaozhi.These teachers have a strong sense of family, studying hard and returning home on time while studying abroad, and serving the country with fruitful scientific research results.Among the authors of these papers, Yang Qi, Yin Hongfu, 於 Chongwen, Zhang Benren, Zhai Yusheng and Mo Xuanxue were elected members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1991 to 2009.In my opinion, the important characteristics of the university's advantageous disciplines should be followed by high-level scientific research results and the training of high-quality talents (including undergraduate and graduate students).For example, the school has won two rounds of national first-class disciplines in geology (including stratigraphic paleontology, rock minerals, tectonic geology, geochemistry) and geological resources and geological engineering (mineral resources, petroleum and natural gas geology).This reflects from a side that internationalization of academic achievements is an important way to achieve the development of outstanding professors and dominant disciplines in universities.
I also note from this material the history of the creation and development of the school's geochemistry discipline.Before the founding of New China, there was no geochemistry in geoscience in China.According to the 1953 class of mineral geology and exploration major Yang Wei-ran recalled that 於 Mr. Chongwen self-compiled geochemistry textbook to teach them.Geochemistry is a new discipline derived from rock mineral chemistry and intersection with other disciplines and emerging analytical testing techniques.於 Mr. Chongwen specializes in deposit geochemistry, Mr. Zhang Benren specializes in regional geochemistry, and Mr. Nguyen Tianjian specializes in oil and gas geochemistry.The international chemistry perspective of the three subject leaders has made outstanding contributions to the school's geochemistry discipline (currently classified as a geology first-level discipline) in the national leadership position.To this end, the school established the Department of Geochemistry in 1985, with Nguyen Tien Kien as the first department head.The representative achievements of geochemistry have won the second prize in the national natural sciences, and have produced three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and four national outstanding youth fund winners.
In addition, it can be seen from the title of 77 papers that some authors belong to the research achievements of utilizing China's abundant geological resources. For example, Yin Hongfu's three papers published in 1983 in volume 57.Some papers may have been the work of the authors during their visit, such as Song Honglin's "Kinematics of Helvette Overlap Root Belt Structure in Western Switzerland" and Mo Xuanxue's "Experimental Study on the Phase Equilibrium of Jorullo Volcanic Lava (1759-1774) in Mexico".Some papers belong to the collective achievements of teachers and graduate students in related disciplines, such as Lu Fengxiang, Deng Jinfu, Omoran, Zhao Chonghe and others.In 1988, the team's work "Eastern China Cenozoic Basalt and Upper Mantle Research (with Kimberly Rock)" was officially published, which contributed to the establishment and development of the national key disciplines of geology.Yan Tongzhen's "Mountain Railway Line Selection Engineering Geology" (the 4th International Engineering Geological Conference held in New Delhi, India in December 1982) and "Slide and Prediction of High Potential Landslide" (the 27th International Geological University held in Moscow, USSR).Feiqi and Wang Xiepei's 1984 paper entitled "Importance of Structural Cracks in Renqiugu Submarine Mountain Oilfield in Eastern China" was named one of the eight best papers at the AAPG Annual Meeting.There is also a paper on sedimentation and tectonic evolution of Late Mesozoic fault-type coal basins in northeastern China published by Li Si Tian and others at the 11th International Sedimentology Congress.These achievements have contributed to the construction and development of "geological resources and geological engineering" in another national key discipline of the school.
From 1980 to 1983, Mr. Wang Hongzheng was the Dean of Wuhan Geological Institute and Mr. Zhai Yusheng was the Vice Dean.
