I can understand the mixed feelings expressed by alumni who, like me, are typical "technical men."For a long time, we have written mainly professional written materials: academic papers and applications for scientific research projects, and, of course, various reporting materials related to our work.Some of our older scholars have published papers in Chinese (I account for about half of them), but later, with the internationalization of scientific research and some strange phenomena in our scientific evaluation, we have been forced to focus too much on English.In addition, our university education has always paid less attention to the training of college students' writing ability, their writing ability depends on the level of individual attention, and some still stay at the level of middle school.Some of our young scholars, especially graduate students, are only interested in the content of the article when they read peer academic papers or other textual materials, not in the written expression of the article.Of course, as for this time, I hope that they will use the school festival to write commemorative articles belong to another topic.Recall that when I was in office, there were very few "head" writing non-professional essay writing materials, and I didn't have the opportunity to learn and train such non-professional writing functions until I retired from science blogging.Of course, some of our alumni have long held leadership positions in related institutions, many of which are written by office secretaries and lack training opportunities.
I have read various applications for scientific research projects, including applications for national and provincial R&D projects, applications for university students' entrepreneurship projects, and postgraduate degree papers.We find that some young scholars in academia, including graduate students, especially those who have studied abroad for many years, rarely write Chinese because their academic needs are mainly in English.When these young talents return home to serve, they will face the same role as scholars, but they will need to write some Chinese text materials for various purposes.In addition, as some well-known scholars, they may also take on some social service and management roles, for which they need to write some non-professional Chinese text materials.For example, when I was a counsellor of Hubei Provincial People's Government, I needed to research and study some issues in Hubei's economic and social development, and then write a study report for the provincial government's decision-making.This kind of textual materials and academic papers have great differences in textual expression style, which requires me to continuously learn to improve the ability and level of written language expression in my native language.I find it difficult for some young scholars to write a non-professional Chinese article with a good writing foundation.To this end, I have published a number of such blog posts on the Science Network to raise this topic of discussion.
