Andrei Chevelev, Director of Asia-Pacific Relations, UNESCO's Africa Priorities and External Liaison Unit, was the keynote speaker on "Conservation of UNESCO's Cultural Heritage and Global Governance".
Prior to the lecture, Lin Rupeng, secretary of the Party Committee of Jinan University, awarded the visiting professor certificate of Jinan University for Andre Cheveliev.This is the second time Jinan University has hired officials from the international organization to teach at the university, following Irina Bokova, former director-general of UNESCO.
Jinan University will continue to play an important role in cultural exchange and international education to promote global cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
Andrei Cheveliev said in a speech that as a new visiting professor at Jinan University, he will open up a solid, win-win and efficient cooperation with Jinan University."We will also organize courses on diplomacy or international relations, the basics of the United Nations, human resource practices.I am very happy to share my experiences with Jinan students and exchange lessons together.' he said.
In the lecture, Andrei Cheveliev introduced the main contents and scope of UNESCO's work and its mechanisms. By analysing its complex involvement in the field of global diplomacy and governance, he focused on the cultural sector's work in the protection of world cultural heritage.
Andrei Cheveliev also detailed the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, launched in 1992, explaining the importance of teaching and global leadership, and appreciating the value and global exemplary role of "World Traditional Crafts: Inheritance and Innovation" awarded by Jinan University in October 2022.
