The discovery of tri-coordinated germanium atoms provides a new perspective on the structure of germanate melt and will help to understand the formation process, defect structure and properties of germanate crystals and glass.In addition, germanium dioxide, as a kind of silicon dioxide, is expected to provide new ideas for geological and mineralogical research.
