Belief is the most invisible aspect of the human mind. No one denies its existence and function. However, there is a mystery between faith and action that can cause serious problems at the individual or social level.From a philosophical point of view, belief belongs to epistemology, which is to some extent more complicated than Quinn's so-called "net of belief" and can even be seen as the black box structure of the mind.There is generally a consensus among the researchers of philosophy of mind. Contemporary epistemology has experienced two approaches: the first is from the inside to the outside.Through intentionality, references, language to the outside world, this is also the leading research route from the beginning to the middle of the twentieth century.The second is the outward-inward approach to research, that is, from stimulation, emotion, feeling (reception), to consciousness (intentionality), and finally to psychological content.There are two approaches to the research of belief, the formation mechanism of individual belief and the leap from individual belief to group belief.
Dr. Sun Danyang's new work is obviously about the former, and in chronological order, discusses the formation and transmutation of individual beliefs, especially the revision of beliefs of patients with mental illness.Therefore, the author discusses the belief analysis of three schools in the 20th century, namely, the belief and its mechanism in the field of psychoanalysis represented by Freud in the early 20th century, the belief and value of existentialism in the mid 20th century.The clear and simple structure of the argument, coupled with flowing words, makes the reading experience of this academic work quite amazing. Objectively speaking, it is a good book with deep academic support and strong humanistic concern.
In 2018, I had the honor to apply for a national social science fund face project, the content is about faith correction, but the point of entry is from the psychological content.I personally tend to think that the path of belief formation is generally this: feeling-psychological content-experience-belief, showing a trend of diminishing conceptual epitaxy, i.e. feeling-extension is greater than experience.When Dr. Danyang studied at Jiaotong University, I was interested in the inward path of belief formation, the path of belief formation and correction based on psychological content representation.In recent years, my focus has changed from inside to outside, from individual to group belief, which may be related to my recent research on science and technology policy and science sociology.There are two problems that have been bothering me: first, the relationship between belief and subconsciousness.As we all know, our beliefs are presented in the form of fast systems. According to Kahneman, the fast systems of human thought must be subconscious, and only then can they get up quickly. Unfortunately, this problem took years and still hasn't been solved.
We can know from the past that in every period of rapid social transformation, group beliefs and social changes are not always in sync. There are always some people who have been left behind by the train of the times for various reasons.From this, we can draw a clear conclusion: the price of social progress in the psychological level is that the number of people with psychological disabilities is rapidly increasing rapidly.So how can we help these communities with psychological disabilities?In addition to medication, heart disease also need medicine, which is why psychotherapy has been hot in modern times.Because of the complexity of belief, psychotherapy begins with belief and embodies the author's technical ideal and concern, which is also the author's deep meaning to heal the soul.I firmly believe that there is a group of silent promoters behind any decent and dignified society, and I firmly believe that Dr. Danyang is one of them.
