Recently with several national young talent shortlisted personnel exchange report defense related matters.They have sent me the points of reply provided by the talent organization.One such reference was to requiring the respondent to state his "independent originality".Applicants are specifically asked to report whether they really have a strong ability to identify and raise important scientific issues independently, what has been reflected in past research experience and future research plans."Original ability" is conceptually understandable.In my popular interpretation, "original ability" refers to the independent suggestion of scientific problems, scientific ideas, scientific methods and technologies that are of great significance to the development of science and technology.I think a young technologist under the age of 40 will have at least 10 years of formal scientific research training starting with a Ph.D. graduate student (some of whom may be able to start with a master's degree or even earlier, such as a senior undergraduate).If the scientific research process is solid and has a certain degree of achievement, such as publishing high-level academic papers, receiving recognized technology awards and technology patents with certain value for use.Such young scientific and technological talents will surely experience the process of "independent originality" through scientific research accumulation, especially a few outstanding young talents.However, how to summarize their own "original ability" is a matter worth serious consideration.
The shortlist for "National Young Talents" indicates that the candidate's scientific and technological achievements have been evaluated by a number of correspondence experts (6-7 or more) and approved by most of the review experts.As a result, each of these young talents will have a "hard currency" achievement that he can do well.However, how to sum up one's "original ability" from one's scientific research practice seems to belong to one's humanistic accomplishment.I have always feared the "original results" of scientific research.When my scientific research office tracked previous research results in the early stages, including scientific research ideas and methods, I have been consciously thinking about how to "take the next level" on the basis of others and make unique results.This scientific research process will embody "independent originality".In fact, due to various needs, such as promotion, declaration of technology awards and application for scientific research projects, we will be involved in the "original ability" thinking, summary and expression.For example, when I summarized the "original results" in the direction of "magnetic effects of hydrocarbon microleakage above reservoirs", I mentioned an international peer review of a paper.This paper has the honor of being sent to the international authoritative expert review (the expert's signature review).The work opens the door to research questions on the mechanism of diagenetic magnetite in soils and their relationship to hydrocarbon seepage from deep reserviors.I think the expert's assessment strongly supports the new research ideas and methodological techniques proposed in this outcome, reflecting the "independent originality".Such scientific evaluations, given by international peers, have high credibility and credibility.On this basis summed up "original ability" is relatively reliable.
In summing up the "original ability", I do not agree with the tall, such as "made the unprecedented, no future", "shocking" achievements expression, and do not agree with the original ability without concrete innovation results supporting.After years of scientific research practice, young scientists should pay attention to "stand on the shoulders of others" and "do their own scientific research" (one of my scientific public welfare report topics), a process that embodies "original ability".In addition to individual geniuses, tracking, learning, innovation and development are the basic processes that most of our researchers go through, and only when they go through such processes can they produce innovative results.Therefore, "original ability" must be based on a certain period of time scientific research accumulation.At this point, there seems to be no "short cut" or "curved overtaking".Otherwise, it is easy to fall into unrealistic "fantasy" and "ambitious" situations, such as "cooked eggs hatch chickens," "water turns oil," and "Einstein's theory of relativity."
"Independent original ability" is the foundation of the national core technology competitiveness. Only when the majority of scientific and technological personnel in China pay attention to hammering and improving their original ability.I wish our shortlisted young talents all the best and make their own efforts and contributions to the national economic construction and social development.
