However, it is not easy to delve into the fundamental characteristics of "academic charm" because it is a positive energy experience with universal value from the heart of an academic practitioner.Blindly claiming that he is enjoying "academic charm" will be criticized as "Adu."However, there will be people who will enjoy the "academic charm" through their hard work.Imagine Mr. Chen Jingrun's obsession with the Gothenbach conjecture, under such bad conditions, without a little "love" and "charismatic feeling" of the world's problems, it is impossible to hold on to the final good.Therefore, I would like to talk about this topic with my own experience and the understanding of the "academic masters" who are enjoying the "academic charm" around me.
I once said that my generation (five years old) is a hard-fought generation.Since I graduated from college and stayed at school to work, I have spent decades of "sour, bitter, bitter" academic experience.Our academic experience and experience can be roughly divided into two stages. The first stage is before the reform and opening-up, the distinctive features of social ecology can be expressed in popular terms.Because at that time we basically have no scientific research projects, the main energy and time into teaching work.In my second year of study, I took charge of teaching. It was an extraordinary time when some old teachers in the Cultural Revolution "stand aside" and we taught the first "workers, peasants and soldiers" with the ability and level of five years of college.At that time, there was no element to stimulate the "academic charm", which was a distinctive feature of the "big pot rice" era.My teachers, for example, generally belong to this situation.The most typical case of "big pot rice" allocation is this: three students who graduated in 1956 stayed at the same time as teachers in a research and teaching room.Before the Cultural Revolution, there was an opportunity to promote lecturers and raise salaries, but the indicators were too limited to satisfy everyone's desire to promote and raise salaries.The balance between a "relatively good" teacher and a raise in lecturer's salary, a "virtue" one who got the title of lecturer but didn't get a raise, and a "virtue" one who got the benefit of getting a raise but didn't get a raise, was still teaching assistant.This is the true description of the social ecology of that era.In that state, at least in most academic institutions, the practitioners have little "academic charm", because they basically do not do academic research, which was the main reason for the lack of high-quality physical science and technology innovation.However, there are always two sides to the matter, and even in the process of producing bovine insulin in cooperation with various life science research institutions in Korea, researchers must have felt the joy of scientific research and enjoyed a bit of academic charm.It is said that the chemicals used in the study of "bovine insulin" can fill a swimming pool, and one can imagine that it would not have been possible to "win" without the painstaking pursuit of "scientific problems."Of course, such achievements were rare in those days.
We have come to the second stage: end the Cultural Revolution, reform and opening up, open the door to the country, understand capitalism, and enjoy the stage of "academic charm".By then, we "five-year-old college students" had missed the best age to produce results.For example, when the National Natural Science Foundation Commission was established, we were generally over 40 and had no connection with the Youth Fund.But after all, you can apply for a "face-to-face fund project" if you want to, but for those of us in the 1970s, the Cultural Revolution has seriously delayed our studies, and the difficulties in scientific research can be imagined.This is also the main reason why there is a big gap in the achievement of our fifth-graders.As far as I know, only a few of the five-year-old students have gone abroad for further study, and have achieved remarkable achievements in postgraduate studies and academic training at European and American universities.
The first National Natural Science Foundation project I received was in the early days of the foundation committee. Of the 22 projects approved by the school, only two were approved by our department (now the other was co-funded by the Geological Industry Fund.When I applied as a lecturer and was approved, my joy was indescribable.I published the first international professional journal academic paper that year the whole school published only 8 international SCI papers, now more than 1000 SCI papers, hundreds of international SCI papers.Looking back on those days, it seems unclear what the motivation for "academic research" was.But at least there is no current over-utilitarian color.At that time, there was no reward for the national fund project, and the first international SCI paper seemed to reward 300 yuan.However, for the first time, the school broke the seniority ranking and introduced the "professional title promotion conditions" in the "proper quantification of achievements" measures.Presiding over the National Natural Science Foundation project and publishing papers in international professional journals (now SCI) is one of the hard indicators.I remember some teachers who didn't get the National Fund and didn't publish papers in international journals complained that the document was a "surprise attack."According to their logic, they do scientific research and publish academic papers for promotion of professional titles.There is, of course, nothing "academic charm" about these teachers.In addition, some of the young friends I had worked with were not expected to enjoy such "substantial" spiritual and material benefits in China's "utility" society.Until now, these middle-aged academic masters are still working hard in their jobs, enjoying the happy life brought by "academic charm".
