From December 2019 to June 2022, the team conducted this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase II trial at 11 U.S. research sites involving 104 confirmed patients with severe depression.Participants were given 25 mg of nudistein or 100 mg of nicotinic acid (placebo) and psychological support, and the team then evaluated the results within 43 days of administration.
Studies have shown that niacin therapy was associated with significantly lower scores on the Montgomery Depression Scale (MADRS) from day 1 to day 8 and from day 43.The MADRS scale consists of 10 items that assess the core emotional symptoms of depression, such as sadness, stress, burnout, pessimism and suicidal thoughts, to reflect the effectiveness of antidepressant therapy and monitor the patient's condition.In addition, the score of the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) was significantly lower with niacin treatment.SDS generates scores related to work disability, social life disability and family life disability.
