The latest annual academic journal influencer IF data is out, but I'm not interested in looking at it.This is because deep down in my heart, I have entered a "transcendental realm" of understanding of academic journals.I think as an old scholar, although I have officially left the academic front line, I have been deeply aware of the basic state of professional journals over the years.Of course, as a professional in bibliometrics research, it is their professional field to study the change of IF value in periodicals and their influence on the subject.In addition, journal editors can analyze the influence of their publication papers from the perspective of citation according to IF index changes.
During my decades as a university teacher, my understanding of academic papers and periodicals has changed from blind to initial to scientific rationality.I have explained my understanding of the three stages of scientific research incentive mechanism and policy evolution of some academic institutions in China since the reform and opening-up.The three stages also basically reflect the changing process of my understanding of academic papers and professional academic journals.
Stage 1: First, there is a process of understanding whether university teachers need to publish academic papers.Because, our country's historical and cultural tradition emphasizes the teacher's "teaching" (that is, teaching) function, neglects "message and disbelief".However, "Mission and Confusion" is the most important play to achieve the independent personality and scientific spirit of university students, and university teachers must do scientific research.As Mr. Qigong wrote to Beijing Normal University, the spirit of "learning as a teacher, acting as a model" requires strong academic knowledge of university teachers.Although there are no scientific research projects for university teachers in early years, it is the beginning stage of scientific research and the initial stage of publishing academic papers.At this stage, my research achievements are mainly published in domestic professional journals, including information publications (review and review papers) and achievements publications.Among them, the major publications are "Chinese Science", "Science Bulletin" and professional journals "Geophysical Journal" and "Geoscience".Chinese Science and Science Bulletin are sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Both journals have the same editorial committee.I remember that Mr. Chen Jingrun and Mr. Yuan Longping's famous works were published in the Chinese Science and Science Bulletin respectively.
In the early years, China Science had only two albums, A and B, and the scientific bulletin had only three thousand words of research newsletter and 700 words of research newsletter.In those days, the two publications requested that Chinese manuscripts be reviewed first, and that English manuscripts be submitted only if they were accepted, and that English manuscripts be issued only, not in Chinese, but not in Chinese.Mr. Zou Chenglu is said to have advocated that scientific communication should be taught from Nature and that multiple columns should be set up.Perhaps the editorial department listened to his suggestions and later added columns such as "Editorial", "Comprehensive Review", "Special Review", "Research Papers", and "Evaluation of Essays" to the scientific bulletin.At present, "Chinese Science" has expanded from two episodes to seven episodes, including mathematics, physics (including mechanics, astronomy), chemistry, life science, earth science, technology science and information science.
Phase II: Start to attach importance to international professional academic journals.Undoubtedly, China's "Science of China" and "Science Bulletin" and related professional societies, especially the first-class academic publications are very good academic publications.However, it must be acknowledged that if our scientific research (including thinking and research methods and techniques) is to communicate with international peers and learn from world-class scholars, our scientific achievements need to be published in international professional journals.She plays an important role in promoting the development of science and technology in China and is also the main reason why I began to pay attention to publishing achievements in international academic journals.My major achievements at this stage were published in the mainstream geophysical journals: Geophysical Research (JGR), International Geophysics (GJI), Tectophysics, Earth and Interplanetary Physics (PEPI), Geodynamics (J.Geodyns), tectonic geology (J. Structural Geology) and Journal of Geophysical Exploration (AAPG Bulletin) and Petroleum Science and Engineering (JPSE).The results of these papers have contributed to enhancing my and my students' international academic influence.
Stage 3: With the internationalization of scientific research, I began to pay attention to and understand the relevant literature measurement data and their significance in academic and institutional impact assessment.I found that as a professional, I need to understand the value of bibliometrics in scientific research, such as the research hotspots provided by SCI databases, and the experience and representative results of some important high-cited authors.However, I have come to realize that as a scholar, I should not pay too much attention to some literature measurement data changes in professional journals, especially IF data changes.Because, for some established international professional journals, IF data changes do not necessarily accurately reflect changes in journal level, but only reflect the popularity of certain papers in the first two years of the journal.However, truly significant and original results cannot be produced solely by pursuing hot scientific research.
With the utilization of the impetuousness and performance evaluation of some organizations, it is neither scientific nor reasonable for some academic journals to be divided into "369" (commonly known as zoning).State authorities have repeatedly stressed the need to break the Five Principles, and some institutions have begun to abandon the one-size-fits-all zoning of periodicals and award criteria for academic journals and papers.In fact, I always think that scholars should pay attention to the characteristics of professional academic journals and their contribution to the development of internal science and technology.
In the international academic community, it is almost impossible to see such an emphasis on journal IF values, paper citation data, and natural indices as in Chinese academic institutions.In fact, the original intention and intention of the authors of the bibliometrics database are mainly to evaluate the scientific output and influence of academic institutions and professions.We can look at European aesthetes' personal pages at will, and hardly see the SCI, or IF data, or even the journal sections (of course, there is no journal section) or the absurdity of "total IF and citation frequency".I note that the national authorities have introduced measures to downplay the direct use of some literature measurement data in evaluating the scientific contributions of scholars.Some organizations no longer mention the IF value or sub-region of the journal when promoting the results, but only ask for an introduction of the characteristics and scientific contributions of the results.I believe that through the joint efforts of state authorities and scholars, we will eventually face the relationship between academic papers, periodicals and scientific achievements, as well as academic atmosphere and scene.
