It is often seen on the Internet and the media that individual undergraduate or graduate students of some universities make extreme actions for various reasons, resulting in tragic consequences, which makes parents and school teachers and students deeply regret and grieve. The causes of these tragic events are complex, some of which are related to school management and teachers. There is no doubt that schools and relevant teachers should be held accountable for such tragic consequences, including legal liability and civil liability. However, as far as I know, some incidents have nothing to do with schools and teachers. They are the result of students themselves and their families. However, as events often occur on university campuses, some of our social public and parents blame the schools and teachers indiscriminately, especially through the rendering of network events, causing undue reputation and material losses to the schools and teachers, which is neither reasonable nor legal. Because college students, especially graduate students, are adults, they have independent legal personality and status, and they should have the obligation and responsibility to know and bear the corresponding consequences. Because universities are not guardians of adult college students, and university teachers and school administrators should not be their legal guardians.

At a dinner table, two professors from a key university and I felt helpless when talking about the depression of individual graduate students in the research group. The two professors are serious and responsible to their students. The subsidies they give to graduate students plus state subsidies are enough to enable them to complete their studies without worry. Academically, the two professors have strict and standardized requirements for students. They hope that students can make good achievements commensurate with their degrees and graduate smoothly on the basis of enjoying the superior material life, strong academic atmosphere and high-quality science and technology platform conditions of the research group. I think these requirements meet the basic requirements of graduate training. As a graduate student, I should be deeply honored to be engaged in learning and research in such a tutor's research group. However, when confronted with such "problem students", the professor also felt helpless. One of the professors said, I told the depressed student that you just do your best, and I will try my best to help you graduate smoothly. However, you must inform me of anything you don't like in time. Another professor also had a depressed student. The professor had hoped that he would take a break from school and take good care of himself at home, and let a postdoctoral in the group have a heart to heart talk with the students to understand the real thoughts of the students, so as to suit the remedy to the case and help the students get through the difficulties. However, students and parents did not listen to the teacher's good advice, and the relevant information was not communicated with the teacher in time, leaving the teacher helpless. Can we say what's wrong with such a teacher's management service for "problem students"? However, if such students have problems in school, should the school and teachers be responsible? In a sense, who will protect the basic rights and interests of these university teachers? I think only when the school effectively protects the basic rights and interests of teachers in accordance with the law can teachers give full play to their talents and make their own efforts and contributions to the development of the school.

Obviously, the above two professors' attitude towards "problem students" is undoubtedly correct. If the students still choose to make extreme actions and lead to tragic consequences, neither the school nor the tutor should bear innocent involvement, otherwise it is equally unfair. My suggestion to the two professors is that the students' situation should be reported to the parents, the leaders of the college and the relevant departments of the school in time. However, some students' parents disagree. It seems that the school should be the guardian of students, and the teacher is the guardian of students. If the professors have informed, under such circumstances, I think the professors have fulfilled their due duty of care and responsibility. Protecting students is certainly the obligation and responsibility of university teachers, but we must distinguish between responsibility and right and wrong.

It can be imagined that if we face those students who are not mentally healthy, the teachers are incompetent, or treat them negatively, and let them go, regardless of asking, it will only damage the students' studies, and the students and their families will still suffer in the end. Therefore, I also sincerely remind our college students and parents that university is not only a place for students to seek knowledge, but also an integral part of society. The era of separating University from society in the past has passed. Our students, especially graduate students, need to have a little "patience" to deal with the negative experience during their study in University. In my article "patience, another noble quality", I said: "I once wondered whether tolerance meant cowardice, cowardice and submission. But decades later, time was the most objective evaluation to test the effect of tolerance. I ushered in a glorious retirement with a better outcome. Therefore, I think tolerance is not cowardice. It is an alternative expression of inner strength and a magic weapon for a happy life." At the same time, our university should offer corresponding law courses to college students, just as a senior student from a key university told me on wechat: "I think many of our college students don't think they are adults. Because of reading all the way, they always feel that they are still children and still need teachers' attention. Our legal knowledge is still relatively lacking. Unless legal students, it's difficult for ordinary people to know, so I feel that I don't have any legal knowledge."

Therefore, when our students face a few unfair events of the school and professors, having basic legal knowledge and the quality of patience can sometimes relieve psychological pressure and inhibit the occurrence of some malignant events. Let our university still be full of love and let our students grow up healthily under the care of the school's teaching staff.
