This process is mixed with excitement, tension, happiness, busyness, confusion and even temporary loss. This is a systematic and detailed record of my experience in my doctoral years.

During my several years as a doctor, I have a lot of time to think about what aspects of academia I am most interested in and constantly fine tune them. This is actually a process of deeply understanding myself and myself. These thoughts also help me make a more accurate positioning of my future choices when I graduate. This article mainly talks about my thoughts and choices in this regard.

The first is the thinking of academic cooperation and scientific research management. The EU Marie Curie project I participated in sent each participant a copy of all official documents about the project from the beginning, which is hundreds of pages thick. When I was free, I read these seemingly boring documents again, because I was curious about how more than a dozen professors in this project established such cooperation, and how different universities and research institutes learned from each other to complement each other's weaknesses and unite with each other. These documents list in great detail how the research funds of millions of euros of the project are allocated, specifically to the amount of funds of each person in the project in different time periods and different places. These are actually the budget for the whole research project. My current work makes me very familiar with the fund budget of scientific research projects, but I didn't have any concept of these at that time. However, these documents became my first contact and thought about project funds and staffing, which made me understand that although everyone's research field is relatively narrow, as long as the resources in different research fields are combined, a framework can be built to systematically solve larger problems.

With the advancement of the project, I also had the opportunity to personally experience and think more deeply about how academic cooperation and scientific research management operate. I also witnessed several specific successful and failed examples, which made me more deeply understand the importance of scientific research management and rational allocation of resources, and I was more interested in these. In order to further improve my ability in this field, I even participated in a training in scientific research project management. At that time, I was still in Germany. So I took a train for more than 5 hours, crossed several countries and came to Belgium to participate in a two-day training, including theory and practical exercises. I never thought that today, many years later, my work has been practicing the original training essence.

The second is to think about the research they have done. The scientific research training in recent years has made it clear to me that doctoral graduation means having the ability of independent research, but do I need to continue to cultivate on the basis of doctoral research? The background and starting point of my doctoral project are engineering problems, but with the deepening of research, this engineering problem has been stripped layer by layer. When it comes to the core, it seems to me that it has become a physical problem. Of course, physics is the theoretical basis of engineering research, but in addition to solving physical problems, engineering research has many more practical problems to solve, which are my real interest.

With this in mind, I do not intend to further explore the original research problems for the next step. I want to study the engineering applications of micro scale flow and heat transfer, such as energy, biomedicine, chemical industry and so on. In this way, the research path that can be followed will be greatly broadened and there will be various options and opportunities for cooperation, And the research methods are also very diverse. We can do experimental research, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis.

The third thing I often think about is where to continue my academic career. I have considered this issue for a long time and considered it very deeply. First of all, I excluded Italy. Although the people here are very enthusiastic and comfortable, the academic circles here are basically native people. Foreigners do less scientific research here for a long time, and many come to communicate for a period of time. Moreover, Italy's overall financial support for scientific research is not enough, which makes it difficult for researchers to apply for domestic funds, so many researchers strive to apply for EU scientific research projects. In addition, Italy is not a country of immigrants, and the whole society is not open enough to foreigners. It is estimated that only in cities like Milan can we experience the atmosphere of internationalization, freedom and inclusiveness.

The second is Germany, where I spent nearly half of my doctor's time. My research progress here is very smooth. The operation and management of the laboratory here are very efficient, the research funds are sufficient, and the software and hardware configuration of the scientific research environment is very good. Secondly, the degree of internationalization here is higher, and the proportion of foreigners is much higher all of a sudden, whether it is short-term communication or long-term scientific research as a career here. All these provide favorable conditions for scientific research. In addition to scientific research and work, in terms of life, German prices are low and stable, and social welfare is good.

But I finally excluded Germany. Here is only a summary of the main reasons. First, my life in Germany in recent years has made me feel very monotonous and even depressed, which forms a strong contrast with my life in Italy. The introversion of German society as a whole makes me feel a little dull. Second, although there are many foreigners, they still lack the compatibility package for foreign nationalities and cultures. Moreover, the whole society puts more emphasis on and highlights the traditions and cultures of their own countries and nations. It seems that they are not so interested in the diversity of foreign cultures, which may be common to many European countries. In fact, there is no right or wrong, but the differences in style characteristics and personal preferences.

In the past few years, the doctor has traveled to many places and experienced many places in depth. These experiences make me not only have no fear of the next unknown place, but also have an excited expectation. Therefore, before and after graduation, I did not choose to continue scientific research in Europe. Instead, I summoned up the courage to open my mind, continue to explore places I had never been, and continue to experience different experiences, which also enriched my life.
