From October 1999 to April 2000, supported by the mainland outstanding youth "Croucher foundation" of the Hong Kong government, I conducted a visit and research in the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and wrote five English articles (4 SCI and 1 EI), all of which were published in mainstream journals in this field.

After returning from HKU, I felt that although there were some materials to write about, it did not contribute much to the development of the discipline and everyone could do it. At that time, I wanted to make some breakthroughs in landslide prediction research, but I didn't have any new ideas and was at a loss. After several months of thinking, I came up with an idea: instead of this, I'd better earn some money as a reserve. In case I really get to know a scientific problem and need to meditate on scientific research, I don't have to worry about life.

I figured it out and did what I said, so I and several partners set up a company, mainly engaged in the development of geotechnical engineering design (foundation pit support, dewatering and foundation treatment) software and geotechnical engineering design and construction.

Our company has developed "Hercules" series geotechnical engineering design software, which is characterized by friendly interface, simple operation, powerful function and in line with reality. It is deeply welcomed by designers and has a certain influence in the national geotechnical engineering field. I made a lot of money by selling software.

With the introduction of several friends, we participated in several large geotechnical engineering design and construction projects. When I talked with Party A, I not only showed strong technical strength, but also showed excellent negotiation skills. The amount of contract set was quite awesome.

In this way, a few years later, I changed my car from Jetta and Honda Accord to BMW. I ate big meals with my friends from time to time, enjoyed delicious food, and hugged each other. It was quite comfortable.

Once, "colon" met me and criticized me, saying that others have opinions on you. You have only made money for yourself in recent years and have not engaged in scientific research projects. You have to contribute to the unit.

Yes, it is necessary! So they switched to horizontal scientific research projects. Because of my excellent business, I can always talk about the point. I am sincere and trustworthy. In addition, I am experienced in negotiation. Basically, I won the bid at a high price. For example, there is a project in Tangshan. A local unit said that 500000 can do it. Party A and I won the bid by nearly 5 million through negotiation. Someone may ask, do you have a relationship with the supervisor of Party A? Did you get it through a treat? No, I didn't know anyone before. I met them through a friend's introduction; There are some meals, but I don't pay, but others pay. The reason why I won the project completely depends on the strength of leverage. Every time I go to the site, the person in charge of Party A treats me as an uncle and invites me to a big meal at the dinner point. Look, that's what Party B did. ha-ha.

In the eyes of others, since it is so smooth, it should continue. However, in the dead of night, I was not down-to-earth. I often recalled several scenes I had experienced: once, I met Academician Wang who had high hopes for my scientific research. He said, "boss Qin, are still making money?" at that time, when I heard this, my face was red and my ears were red and I was sweating. Yes, a scientific researcher has become a big boss rather than a master, which makes people feel embarrassed. In addition, at an academic conference, several brothers and sisters attacked me and criticized me: "we know your scientific research ability. You have the potential to make outstanding achievements. You should tap your potential and use it in the right way. Weigh it yourself." I was deeply touched by your words.

At this time, I really want to completely return to real scientific research, but I still don't have any good ideas. I'm worried and can't do anything. Continue to do those chicken rib like scientific research, waste your life; Then send those irrigation SCI papers, which can only increase the difficulty of literature retrieval. It seems that we still need opportunities to return.

The opportunity finally came. Inspired by the failure of the outstanding youth's application in 2009, the inspiration finally came - the long-term thinking about the prediction of slope instability had a new way of thinking. It turned out that the locking section dominated the instability of a large class of slopes. Because he felt that the prospect of studying the fracture behavior of the locking section was promising, he immediately stopped doing horizontal scientific research projects and stopped interfering with the company's operation. He plunged into it and forgot to return. Although life is getting poorer and poorer, I have a rising sun in my chest and a secure heart.

In the study of locking segment damage mechanism, whenever I think hard and find a new principle, I always feel very happy; Whenever I rack my brains and propose a universal formula, I feel that I am not a fool; Whenever I find a way to solve a problem, I feel like I have two brushes; Whenever the principle and formula are verified successfully, I feel that the world is really wonderful. This brings me a full sense of achievement, pride and pleasure. Now I realize that it's good to do original scientific research. It's far from being comparable to being a boss or given by silver; At this time, fame cannot move my heart, wealth cannot take away my ambition, and wealth cannot change my direction.
