The reporter learned from the University of science and technology of China on the 13th that the academician Guo guangcan team of the University cooperated with Professor Marcus Huber of Austria to realize efficient high-dimensional quantum communication in a high-noise environment.

This achievement was recently published in the internationally renowned journal Physical Review Letters.

Quantum communication is one of the most important applications in the field of quantum information. Theoretical studies show that compared with two-dimensional systems, high-dimensional quantum systems have obvious advantages in channel capacity and anti noise ability. However, there are still challenges to achieve efficient high-dimensional quantum communication in experiments.

In recent years, Li Chuanfeng and Liu biheng research groups in academician Guo guangcan's team have been committed to the experimental research of high-dimensional quantum communication networks and made a series of progress in the preparation and transmission of high-dimensional entanglement, including the preparation of 32-dimensional quantum entangled states with the highest fidelity in the world and the effective transmission of high-dimensional entangled states in 11 km optical fibers.

In order to study the influence of environmental noise on high-dimensional quantum communication, the research group introduced environmental stray light by irradiating led to single photon detector, and took entanglement based quantum key distribution as an example.

The results show that high-dimensional full space coding can achieve the best coding efficiency when the noise is small. With the increase of noise, the high-dimensional subspace coding method can better resist the influence of noise. The experimental results are significantly better than the two-dimensional bit system, so as to ensure that the efficient high-dimensional quantum communication can still be realized in the high-noise environment.
