The wisdom of the youth is the wisdom of the country, and the wealth of the youth is the wealth of the country; If the youth is strong, the country will be strong, and if the youth is independent, the country will be independent; Juvenile freedom means national freedom; The progress of youth is the progress of our country; If the youth is better than Europe, the country is better than Europe; If the youth is superior to the earth, the country is superior to the earth. " Often read here, I feel deeply that the strength of a country's scientific and technological strength is mainly determined by young researchers. With strong young researchers, China has strong scientific and technological strength. It coincides with another youth day. I think contemporary young researchers should have the following May 4th spirit.

First of all, young researchers should have the spirit of exploring future science. Many young people think that doing scientific research means writing papers. Therefore, the research direction that is easy to publish academic papers has become a hot direction. In particular, a few years ago, people competed for the "SCI journal influence factor". People doing engineering went beyond the boundary to solve the problem of materials science, people doing materials science went beyond the boundary to solve the problem of chemistry, and people doing chemistry went beyond the boundary to solve the problem of life science. In addition to improving the "influence factor data" of their papers, these people have not made any contribution to the future development of their own discipline. At the same time, they think that they have done first-class work across the border, but they don't know that these work are meaningless in the eyes of the original researchers in those fields. Young researchers should be full of the spirit of exploring future science. Therefore, we must know that the current hot issues are not necessarily the direction of future science, and many directions of future science may be completely unpopular now. Therefore, I do not agree with the "cross-border" development mode of University researchers. Of course, many researchers are aware of the harm of such research to the development of the discipline. Therefore, young researchers should not simply play with the "influence factor data", but should base on their own research field, think about the future scientific problems worthy of exploration, and be able to lead the development of the discipline.

Second, young researchers should be full of positive and innovative spirit. After many doctoral students become young researchers, they suddenly feel confused. They don't know how to carry out scientific research. If it's just a continuation of the doctoral research project, it has been done for four or five years, and the innovative content has been almost done. If you do a job you are not familiar with, you are worried that you can't do it. I know some teachers who are still doing what they did 10 years ago and can continue to publish some academic papers. To say good is to do "extremely deep", to say bad is to "eat old". In my opinion, a university researcher should make minor changes in scientific research in five years and make major changes in ten years. Only in this way can he continue to do innovative work. Many people feel that young researchers do not have a large team, so there is no way to make outstanding innovative achievements. In fact, this understanding is wrong. A large number of studies have shown that the teams that can really make disruptive and innovative work are often small scientific research teams, while those large teams generally only do "step-by-step" work. Therefore, when the team of young researchers is not particularly large, we can pool our wisdom and really make disruptive and innovative work.

Third, young researchers should be critical and dare to challenge authority. Now there is a very bad phenomenon in the academic circle. Some young researchers are very thoughtful and creative, but when their work can not be recognized by "authoritative personnel", they will immediately feel that they have done wrong, instead of standing up to challenge these authoritative personnel. Many times, they make some research results. If they find that their results are inconsistent with the papers published in academic journals, they will feel that they have done wrong. What they lack is critical thinking to challenge the authoritative views and inherent knowledge. Most of the time, because they dare not challenge the authority, they miss some important achievements. In my opinion, respecting teachers is a virtue, but on the road of scientific research, young people's critical spirit of scientific research is even more valuable. Now people are very superstitious about top journals such as nature and science. When they find that these journals have published some results, they think it's right without thinking about it and follow suit to do some research. Even if their results are completely different from those of these journals, they dare not challenge them. Last year, the media reported the fake case of Harvard University Professor Piero anvesa's cardiac stem cell research. I believe that the results of most young scholars in China must be completely contrary to the conclusion of Piero anvesa. However, because each other is a "well-known professor of Harvard University" and their papers are published in top journals such as nature and science, they passively "think they are wrong" and eventually become a joke in the academic circles. If they dare to criticize authoritative people and challenge the views of authoritative journals, the development of things may be completely different. Therefore, the spirit of daring to criticize and challenge authority is a valuable spirit that young researchers should have.

Finally, young researchers should have the spirit of "keeping pace with the times". Now that our country is vigorously promoting the "breaking four only", we should respond to this good call and do some truly "indomitable" scientific research work, instead of simply pursuing the trend, the number of papers published, the high impact factor and the high number of citations. We should do our own research work in-depth and systematically, truly dig out scientific principles through phenomena, and provide knowledge reserves for China's future industrial upgrading. One day when we are old, looking back on the scientific research work we have been engaged in in all our lives, if there is one thing that has left an impact on the lives of future generations, I feel no regret in this life.
