But part of the reason why science is so important - and that it is so urgent to transform scientific practice and scientific systems - is that science is, after all, different from other human activities. Indeed, there is a paradox around the cause of science. When science is the best, it is a unique way for human beings to improve themselves. We can escape the chaos of the world for a while and go to an area that operates in our own order. Ancient, Renaissance and Enlightenment thinkers saw the glorious realization of rationality, the highest function of human being in the achievements of scientists.
