When I was a doctor, the basic requirement of the school for doctoral students to graduate was to publish one Chinese key journal and two core Chinese journals. My master's first semester had a paper hired by key Chinese journals, and my tutor was stunned. Later, the school's requirements were raised and at least one English paper was required. Therefore, for a while, the number of papers retrieved by EI began to soar. Later, the school requirements were further improved, and doctoral students were required to publish one SCI paper and two EI papers, or two SCI papers. So more and more doctoral students are forced to postpone their graduation because the number of papers is not up to standard. Therefore, many people call for the cancellation of the requirements for small papers after graduation. Personally, it is of great significance for a doctor to ask for a certain academic paper to be published at a certain period of time. Now China has become a large country of papers. It is time to change from large number of papers to one with the same quality and quantity of papers. Therefore, it is of great significance to cancel the rigid requirements of a certain number of academic papers to cancel doctoral graduation.

Has the final say that the graduate students of many developed countries have no rigid requirements for the number of academic papers published, and whether their doctoral students can graduate is basically the final say of the tutor. Not every student can publish a bunch of academic papers for a doctoral student from a top school such as Cambridge or Oxford. Especially for some doctoral students funded by enterprise projects, the project funds are dead. Students will no longer have funds to support them when they reach their graduation years. Even if they do not publish an academic paper during the semester, his tutor will let them finish the major thesis quickly. However, for most other doctoral students, even if the school does not require academic papers to be published during the semester, they will publish some papers more or less when they graduate.

What kind of doctoral students can not publish academic papers when they graduate? I think engineering doctoral students can not publish high-level academic papers, and their assessment can be innovation technology, innovation and invention, or specific engineering contribution. Especially those students who want to work in the business field after graduation can not publish academic papers. Their future work is mainly engineering application. In addition, the personnel engaged in the secret research may not publish papers. Their achievements can be evaluated entirely by their tutors. There is a super Daniel professor in metallurgy in Canada. A doctoral student of his university has not published a paper in the semester. However, the professor is very optimistic about the work that the doctoral student does. So he helped him write a heavy recommendation letter when he was looking for a job after graduation. The other party directly hired him without even an interview.

However, for the doctoral students who are engaged in general science, some academic papers are suggested. There is a very practical reality. Many famous universities in Britain and Australia have graduated from the University, but they can not find the right job when they return home. The reason is that they did not publish a certain number of academic papers during their doctoral period, and they could not meet the basic conditions of recruitment in domestic universities. Therefore, if the domestic university engaged in general science doctoral students do not publish several academic papers, it will be more difficult to develop in the future. As for how many academic papers a doctoral student should publish, or what grade of academic papers should be published, I think it varies from person to person and subject direction. However, if a doctoral student wants to continue to work in academic research in the future, one of the basic suggestions is to strive to publish more than 3 academic papers in the mainstream journals in the research direction, because three representative works are usually needed when looking for a job.

Then on the topic above, I want to discuss whether the professor should write a paper?

One professor said the other day that the majority of associate professors' materials include papers, funds and so on, compared with the materials of some associate professors and professors applying for doctoral supervisor qualification. This shows that the "ability (or motivation)" of the orthodox professors to write papers and apply for funds does not seem to be strong enough. The associate professor can understand the enthusiasm of writing papers and writing funds. Indeed, young teachers who do not want to be professors are not good teachers, but there must be a certain number of academic papers to evaluate professors. Most of the young friends next to me are very motivated and are trying to make good results. On the contrary, for teachers who have already obtained the title of a professor, the motivation for writing papers should be more pure. They published papers to prove that they were still in the academic circle and had not retired.

However, can professors not publish academic papers? I think that the teaching research professors who are not involved in the teaching and research should publish a certain number of academic papers every year. Of course, for professors, the thesis does not have to be written by themselves, either by their graduate students or by their postdoctoral students. However, the idea must be taught. To be extreme, if a professor doesn't have a single academic paper a year, I don't think it's qualified. Instead, professors should strive to publish high-level academic papers. Usually, professors have no pressure on the number of academic papers. Therefore, if you write a paper, you must strive to write a high level of papers. Remember that Australia used to classify ear journals, which defined a* and a-journals as journals that professors should try to publish. Although, we have not mentioned a* and a-journals, but whether a journal is excellent, everyone has a scale in his heart. Some journals have high influence factors, but the level of papers is not high. Some journals have low impact factors, but many cattle publish papers on them. If a person has already been teaching, and just like graduate students, it is absolutely sad to simply pursue influence factors rather than influence. In addition, if a university wants to improve the quality of its own papers, it is difficult for professors to write papers without themselves.

In conclusion, for most doctoral students, if they want to continue to work in the future, they should strive to publish more than three mainstream academic journals. For professors, we should pursue the publication of influential academic achievements.
